SEVEN (7) protocols to support business the use of core applications in a business

In this post, we are going to be discussing the possible protocols that will be supporting the use of the following types of applications.

  • Microsoft Office suite.
  • WordPress for Web site and Intranet.
  • Web & email Internet access.
  • Appointment management software
  • Suitable security software

The type of software listed above are examples of basic software type that a business can use for their activities

As mentioned earlier, we will discuss some protocols that can be used to support those software in an organization.

IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol)

This protocol is used by internet service to receive and hold staff emails even at low connection speed. It operates at the application layer.

SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol)

This can be used to send emails to a receiver’s mail server. It operates at the application layer.

HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol)

It is a communication protocol. Is the most used protocol on the internet that you need. It is also used on intranets. It operates at the application layer.

FTP (File Transfer Protocol)

It can be used to send files to the FTP server or retrieve files from it. It operates at the application layer.

SSL (Secure Sockets Layer)

SSL operates at the presentation layer. It will be used for security purposes for error free transmission and establishes connections that are encrypted to keep your system secure from internal and external threats.

TCP (Transmission Control Protocol)

This protocol handles the reliable connection aspect of a communication between two computers on the internet. It operates at the transport layer. 

IP (Internet Protocol)

Computers on the network need IP address to communicate with others on the internet. IP is a network layer protocol that governs the transfer of data from one computer to another.
